ABOUT US
"The Harvest Project: Tanam, Grow, 栽培" is a project established by Chin Kee Mee, Maisarah Hakimah and Yong Yung Yuan; a group of Diploma in Graphic & Multimedia Design students from Sunway University as a project for the Final Year Project subject.
The rationale of the title, "The Harvest Project: Tanam, Grow, 栽培" is on the grounds where it incorporates the three fundamental dialects that are usually used in Malaysia: Malay, English, and Chinese.
The rationale of the title: "Tanam" signifies "plant (verb)" in Malay Language, and "栽培 (zāi péi)" signifies "to cultivate (take care of)" in Chinese Language. The entire title depicts that when you plant the seed and water it, at that point you watch it grow day by day, and afterward simultaneously you care for it by giving it water, sunlight and fertilizer to make it grow healthier; With "The Harvest Project" indicates the conclusion with the harvesting of the plant.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
With the increasing urbanization of modern society, the deforestation of huge flora and fauna areas to accommodate the development of urban areas has created various dire environmental consequences.
The loss of trees and other vegetation during urban development can cause climate change, desertification, soil erosion, fewer crops, flooding, increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and a host of problems for indigenous people.
Our Aim
With the project concept of The Harvest Project: 'Tanam, Grow, 栽培' we hope to raise awareness and persuade more people to participate in planting activities.
We also hope that with this project, active incorporation of harvestable greenery in one’s lifestyle can be achieved.
Not just that, but we aim to empower and raise consciousness about urban gardening, as well as the environmental implications of unplanned deforestation and urbanization; By encouraging the activity of growing your own indoor harvestable vegetable garden in your home, as an impactful and fun way that you can reduce your carbon footprint in daily life.
